Welcome 2013!!! :)

I started off my new year kind of eh.
My hubby worked and Sophie and I didn't do anything special.
Since I had just run on New Years Eve for the first time in almost 2 weeks, I was sore and decided to skip a day to give my body time to heal.
Instead of running, I decided to do 5 sets of 20 of Clean & Press with my Ultimate Sandbag
I need to take my running "rest" days more seriously and do more cross training.
I seriously love my sandbag too.
It will be a big part of my cross training this year!
I may have to set some small goals of adding one new exercise with it each month!
I won this from Skinny Mom  a while back and I was so excited to see it arrive! :)

As far as my goals, I forgot to include that I want to run 500 miles this year! That's only 80 more than last year, and I think it's completely doable! Especially with so many half marathons this year! :)
I'm keeping track of everything in several different places so I can constantly see what I'm doing and it's in my face at all times. I have one of those write on/wipe off calendar boards in my bathroom that I change every month. I have in parenthesis what I'm supposed to be doing that day and then I erase it and put what I actually did. I love having it right there so I know what I will be doing the next day!
I am also using the Believe I Am Training Journal this year!
So far, I really like it!
I think it will help me to go back at the end of the month and really see what I've accomplished and what I've really been slacking on.
(BTW...if anyone wants to buy me a belated Christmas present, I absolutely LOVE this shirt from the Believe I Am collection!)
I'm keeping up with my miles on Daily Mile again this year as well.
I love that it syncs with my Nike + as well as my Garmin 305!
That way if my Nike acts up, I still have my Garmin that will sync as well! :)
Jumping to a bit of a different topic...
One of my most favorite blogs to read is Tina from Best Body Fitness!
I've been reading her blog for almost 3 years now!
On January 2nd, she posted about a single word that would be on your mind in everything you do.
This is what she said about it:
"A few years ago I heard about the idea of choosing a word as a theme for the upcoming year instead of a long list of New Years resolutions. The word should encompass many other goals and areas of life, but allow more focus by having the sole word at the forefront of your mind."

You can read her post and all about her word HERE.
I'm actually planning on using the same word as her.

I left her a comment telling her that Joy is actually my “theme” for Christmas. Yes, I am weird and I have a decorating “theme” for Christmas! lol But I love to find things that say JOY and put them all around my house at Christmas, because Christmas brings total and complete Joy to me every single year! So instead of just having Joy at Christmas, I want to see it All year long!

absolutely love this idea of having a one word “theme” for the year!

You may see this word popping up from time to time in my blog posts and on my Facebook page. :)

*Do you have a word that you would put with your mindset this year?
I would love to hear it! And I know Tina would too! :)

  1. My word of the year is 'follow-through' something I need to work on! How do you like doing clean & presses with the sand bag? I usually do them with a barbell, but I've been hearing more and more positive reviews about the sand bags so I'm intrigued!

    1. I've never done it with a barbell, so I can't really tell you the difference. lol :) I just don't have access to any barbels at home and the sandbag takes up a bit less room in my house! Plus if you get several bags, you can change the weight just by adding more sand in more bags! It's just simple and easy for at home workouts! I really like it! :)

Park Problem Solved! :)

Looks like I have found my park! It's about 10 min. away driving, but it is totally worth it! My run wasn't all that exciting, but the Park was! :) Here are my new running buddies! :) They are fun to watch while running by! :)  Yes that's my finger...The sun was very bright and I didn't see it! lol :) I just love it all!  Stopping to take pictures! :) I have to Thank my mom who actually Google Maped this Park for me! :) So glad she found it! :)  As for the run, I really don't know how long the trail is, so I don't even know how far I went! I made it all the way around, walking, in less than 15 min. so I am thinking that it is at least a mile. If it is, then I did 3 miles today! If not, then...I don't know! It's times like these that I wish I had my Garmin ! :) For the first 2 laps, I decided to just Run/Walk. I would run 5 min. walk for 1 or 2 min. Then the last lap I just walked the whole time. Just to enjoy it! I just have to say...the hills are

Cowtown Half Recap!

On Sunday, February 24, 2013 I ran my first official Half Marathon!  Before the race started, I met up with these fellow MRTT ladies!  Pic from How My World Runs It was freezing cold (yes 33 degrees is freezing to this Texan! haha) and I was hoping it wouldn't warm up too much because I run so much better in the cold. I ended up wearing my jacket the whole time and was completely comfortable! We had a wind advisory in affect and I think the wind made it even cooler. This was also my first time to run with my new haircut and with my hair down! Didn't bother me at all! Short hair for the win! :) I was in the very last Corral to start. Yes, I know I'm slow. Get Over it!<---Saw that saying on several shirts throughout the race!  Looks like I need one! haha :) I had to post this pic, because I have no idea what I was doing, nor remember even taking it! Haha! About 20 min before the race, I headed to the porta potty's. Yeah, I should have
