Christmas & 5 miles!

After Thanksgiving I had absolutely no motivation to go run or do much of anything else except decorate for Christmas!
I did actually go out on black friday in the morning and hit up Old Navy and Babies R US!
I got me and the hubby a few things at Old Navy and then I definitely scored at Babies R US! I got Sophie a small slide and a Little Tykes Picnic Table! They both fold up and are light weight so I can carry them downstairs to let Sophie play! They also fit inside the apartment! lol :)
Sophie's Great Grandpa is giving her the slide and her Great Grandparents on the hubby's side is giving her the Picnic Table! I can't wait for her to get them and start playing! Oh how I love Christmas!!! :)

Our Christmas tree and Stockings! :)
(Yes that is a baby gate in front of the fireplace! My child tries to crawl inside it lol)

Here are my 2 Starbucks ornaments that I hang up in my kitchen every year and think about one of my closest friends who I don't get to see very often! She has worked at Starbucks for....forever I think! lol :)

Here is Sophie's Christmas tree in her room! :)

I love the pink! :)

This Christmas is going to be so much fun with Sophie being at this age!
I can't wait to go Christmas light looking with her and see her open her presents!
Having a child makes Christmas even more great!
Friends that know me...Yes it is worse now, if that's possible! lol :)

On Saturday, since I still didn't feel like going to run, I took Sophie for a 3 mile walk in the evening. I knew I needed to do something to move after eating all of that Turkey and pumpkin pie! It was a nice walk and a  nice motivator to actually get out the door Sunday morning!
I told myself all Sunday evening that I was going to go for 5 miles in the morning. It's what was on my training schedule and I knew I HAD to do it!

I headed out Sunday morning still TELLING myself I was going to go for 5!
I was basically playing it by ear to see how Sophie would do in the stroller. Lately she hates being in there, but I make her do it anyway! Mean mommy! :) She was fine after a mile, so I kept going. I had to turn around at 2.5, so I knew if I could make it there then I could start telling her we were headed home.

She did great until the turn around when we turned into the wind. It was horrible! She could barely open her eyes and started getting cranky and turning around in her seat. She got out of the should straps and started sitting up and rocking back and forth shaking the whole stroller. This is where it gets frustrating for me. I'm practically standing still while trying to run with the wind pushing at me and then she's rocking the whole thing back and forth making it even more difficult to push. We finally turned a corner and the wind was on our side now. She calmed down and things became peaceful for the rest of the way!

At mile 3.5 I hit a wall and was just exhausted. I was doing a 4 run/2 walk interval and those 4 minutes became soooo long! I took a lot more walking breaks than I should have after that. But I still finished!

Me happy after finishing my 5 miles!!!
(I was under a tree and couldn't tell the light was shining funny on my nose and chin! lol)

This was a mental accomplishment for me! I haven't run 5 miles in a while and needed to show myself I could do it again! Especially pushing Sophie! I will, more than likely, have Sophie on all of my long runs so I need to get used to it! I think it will definitely improve my endurance for when I don't have her along with me!

I'm excited to start building my mileage up! My first half of 2013 is on January 12th!
It's the MRTT Virtual Half and I'll be pushing Sophie in the stroller for this one!
I'll be using it as a practice run before the Cowtown on February 24th! :)

Sophie's Great Grandparents are also getting her an iPad case for Christmas! It is kid proof and I can strap it to my stroller! I'm hoping this will entertain her much longer than her just sitting in her stroller watching for doggies!

Anyone have any other ideas on how to entertain her on the long runs in the stroller?
She always has snacks and water, but those only last so long! :)

  1. Wow..congrats on the run. It's been a long time since I had to exercise with a little one. You get a gold star for making it through the process alive...lol.

My grandson loves his iPad and his father child proofed it for him also. If you have the internet connection you can always let her watch youtube videos or video apps with her favorite show (my grandson loves Thomas the Train) or without an internet connection let her listen to her favorite (kids) music.

  3. Good for you getting out there with the stroller! It's a pain when they (kids) start protesting it, though!! Congrats finishing your 5 regardless!

Park Problem Solved! :)

Looks like I have found my park! It's about 10 min. away driving, but it is totally worth it! My run wasn't all that exciting, but the Park was! :) Here are my new running buddies! :) They are fun to watch while running by! :)  Yes that's my finger...The sun was very bright and I didn't see it! lol :) I just love it all!  Stopping to take pictures! :) I have to Thank my mom who actually Google Maped this Park for me! :) So glad she found it! :)  As for the run, I really don't know how long the trail is, so I don't even know how far I went! I made it all the way around, walking, in less than 15 min. so I am thinking that it is at least a mile. If it is, then I did 3 miles today! If not, then...I don't know! It's times like these that I wish I had my Garmin ! :) For the first 2 laps, I decided to just Run/Walk. I would run 5 min. walk for 1 or 2 min. Then the last lap I just walked the whole time. Just to enjoy it! I just have to say...the hills are

Cowtown Half Recap!

On Sunday, February 24, 2013 I ran my first official Half Marathon!  Before the race started, I met up with these fellow MRTT ladies!  Pic from How My World Runs It was freezing cold (yes 33 degrees is freezing to this Texan! haha) and I was hoping it wouldn't warm up too much because I run so much better in the cold. I ended up wearing my jacket the whole time and was completely comfortable! We had a wind advisory in affect and I think the wind made it even cooler. This was also my first time to run with my new haircut and with my hair down! Didn't bother me at all! Short hair for the win! :) I was in the very last Corral to start. Yes, I know I'm slow. Get Over it!<---Saw that saying on several shirts throughout the race!  Looks like I need one! haha :) I had to post this pic, because I have no idea what I was doing, nor remember even taking it! Haha! About 20 min before the race, I headed to the porta potty's. Yeah, I should have
