W2D2 complete

Today was Week 2 Day 2... My mother-in-law decided she wanted to go walking with me while I jogged. We ended up having a nice little chat! After we finished, we rode in her convertible to McDonald's to try their new Fruit Smoothie! I got the Strawberry Banana. It was sooo good. When I got home, I looked up the nutrition...and as I suspected...to much sugar. Oh well, it was a special treat that I probably won't be getting again any time soon. :)

On my runs, I did ok through my first 2 -1.5min runs. The last 4 just got worse. My shins started hurting again and I just could not catch my breath for some reason! It was 7 in the evening and the sun was going down, but it was still so hot...and the humidity was once again, awful. I hate to add this little whine, but they also had mowed the grass today. I actually had Asthma as a kid. Guess what I was allergic to....Grass....yeah..so I don't know if this had anything to do with my difficulty breathing, but I'm not sure it helped either. I don't know what to do about my shin splints. I have iced them, stayed ff of them, and even kept my legs elevated. I don't want to sit out more while they heal! Running is what I have a passion for now, and I am irritated that I have yet another obstacle to overcome before I can make my dream a reality. Hopefully the ChiRunning book will be helpful.

So I am trying to decide if I should do week 2 over again. I don't feel like I have a minute and a half down yet. I am not sure if I should move on to 3 min. If I redo this week, I really won't be able to redo any other week. I'm pushing my finishing week into October and I will really like that whole month for me to practice the whole 5K. I guess we will see how W2D3 goes!

And as for other news...I pre-ordered my Operation Beautiful: Transforming the Way You See Yourself One Post-it Note at a Time book, by Caitlin from the Healthy Tipping Point blog, today!!! I'm so excited and can't wait to read it! :)

  1. Ooh, let me know how the Chi Running book is - I've been eyeing it myself. ;)

I'll be repeating Week 1. I still have to really force myself to finish all 8 60-second runs, so I think it would be foolish to move on to the longer intervals. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that the shin splints don't get worse and wind up sidelining you.

Cowtown Half Recap!

On Sunday, February 24, 2013 I ran my first official Half Marathon!  Before the race started, I met up with these fellow MRTT ladies!  Pic from How My World Runs It was freezing cold (yes 33 degrees is freezing to this Texan! haha) and I was hoping it wouldn't warm up too much because I run so much better in the cold. I ended up wearing my jacket the whole time and was completely comfortable! We had a wind advisory in affect and I think the wind made it even cooler. This was also my first time to run with my new haircut and with my hair down! Didn't bother me at all! Short hair for the win! :) I was in the very last Corral to start. Yes, I know I'm slow. Get Over it!<---Saw that saying on several shirts throughout the race!  Looks like I need one! haha :) I had to post this pic, because I have no idea what I was doing, nor remember even taking it! Haha! About 20 min before the race, I headed to the porta potty's. Yeah, I should have

Starting over with something new.

Way back in 2012 I started running...for reals... I ran my first Virtual Half Marathon in June and then in the Fall, I started meeting up with a Moms RUN This Town friend 3-4 days a week to walk/run 3-4 miles with our kiddos in the stroller. We started training for the Cowtown Half Marathon and I started dropping weight. By December, I had lost 35 lbs (this was total since having Sophie, not just in 2-3 months) and I looked the best I had looked in a very long while. Then I ran the Cowtown Half in February of 2013, hurt my hip, stopped running, walked the Dallas Rock N Roll Half a month later and then stopped running for good until August of 2013. I then started trying to pick it up a bit here and there while also participating in Stroller Strides.  The thing is...I started gaining weight once I stopped running. Didn't matter if I was doing stroller strides. I just kept getting bigger. First it was just 10 lbs. I kept it at that 10 lb weight gain from August until January
