Hello 2012! :)

I have started 2012 with a bang! I decided to skip C25K because I was a bit bored with it, having already done it once. I decided to skip right to Half Marathon training! I have only done 2 days so far, but completely surprised myself both day!!! The first day (Jan. 2nd) I ran 3 miles with a bit of walking. I wore my awesome Christmas present from my hubby...
My new Vibram 5 Finger Treks! :)

That turned out to be a bit of a mistake. HaHa :)
Now please note that I have only run in Nike Free 7's. They are transition minimalist shoes, so I was used to running with little padding. Plus I had already walked 4 miles in my Vibrams with 1 mile of running, just trying them out. Apparently that wasn't enough! My arches were KILLING me after a mile. I refused to give up though! I kept on trekking along. Yes, I walked...But I did not walk as much as I had thought I would! I was definitely slow too, but I know I will have to work on speed as I go! :)

Today was Day 2 (Or yesterday since I'm typing this after midnight). I did not have time to run during the day with Sophie, so I knew I would have to run tonight. When my hubby got home, he was wonderful enough to stay with Sophie while I went to run on my own. :) It was pretty darn cold (39 degrees is cold for us Texans), but I only wore a shirt and capri's because I am hot natured and new I would warm up soon. I did, but my skin felt very cold when I was done! Maybe I should look into cold weather gear? hmm....Anyway...I just went for it. A 5K was my goal! I have to admit that half way through...I couldn't remember how many miles a 5K was!!! So I was hoping with 3.4 I was safe, but then when I was done, I was afraid it was 3.5! Oh the forgetfulness of mommy brain! lol :)
It turns out, I did run my first 5K!
ALL RUNNING! NO WALKING!!

I have to admit...I'm on top of the world! I am so proud! I never thought I would actually be able to run a full 5K without walking! Especially at the weight I am now! I can't wait to see how far my body will take me! Especially if more weight starts to fall off! I am so excited!

I came home after my run to this...

Aren't they cute :)

I have unofficially said I am planning on running the Gusher Half Marathon on March 10. I really, really want to...And I am training for it, but I am afraid to pay and then something happen and I can't make it. I'm counting on it though! So we will see!

I am also trying to commit more to blogging! I want to record this journey! I haven't weighed myself in a while, so I need to do that to see if I am loosing any weight. More important to me, though, is my health and in turn, Sophie's health. She needs a good role model! I want to be that healthy role model in her life! :)

I have another 3 miles tomorrow. Saturday is a 4 miler. I'm excited to see how it goes! :)

  1. Sarah I am so excited for you and so proud of you for jumping right into the half training. Can't wait to see how much we have changed not just physically, but as a whole person by the time March gets here!! I love ya girl and I am here for you if you ever need me!

Oh and that picture is adddddddorable!

One more question... you don't get nervous running at night? I used to run at night and LOVED the way it feels, but D is a little anxious about me being out there alone during the day much less at night... he even bought me runner's pepper spray to carry during my day runs!

Park Problem Solved! :)

Looks like I have found my park! It's about 10 min. away driving, but it is totally worth it! My run wasn't all that exciting, but the Park was! :) Here are my new running buddies! :) They are fun to watch while running by! :)  Yes that's my finger...The sun was very bright and I didn't see it! lol :) I just love it all!  Stopping to take pictures! :) I have to Thank my mom who actually Google Maped this Park for me! :) So glad she found it! :)  As for the run, I really don't know how long the trail is, so I don't even know how far I went! I made it all the way around, walking, in less than 15 min. so I am thinking that it is at least a mile. If it is, then I did 3 miles today! If not, then...I don't know! It's times like these that I wish I had my Garmin ! :) For the first 2 laps, I decided to just Run/Walk. I would run 5 min. walk for 1 or 2 min. Then the last lap I just walked the whole time. Just to enjoy it! I just have to say...the hills are

Cowtown Half Recap!

On Sunday, February 24, 2013 I ran my first official Half Marathon!  Before the race started, I met up with these fellow MRTT ladies!  Pic from How My World Runs It was freezing cold (yes 33 degrees is freezing to this Texan! haha) and I was hoping it wouldn't warm up too much because I run so much better in the cold. I ended up wearing my jacket the whole time and was completely comfortable! We had a wind advisory in affect and I think the wind made it even cooler. This was also my first time to run with my new haircut and with my hair down! Didn't bother me at all! Short hair for the win! :) I was in the very last Corral to start. Yes, I know I'm slow. Get Over it!<---Saw that saying on several shirts throughout the race!  Looks like I need one! haha :) I had to post this pic, because I have no idea what I was doing, nor remember even taking it! Haha! About 20 min before the race, I headed to the porta potty's. Yeah, I should have
