5k with the hubby :)

I completed W4D2 of C25K tonight alongside my wonderful hubby! :)
It started out pretty good on the first 3 min. run. I was trying to incorporate what I had been reading in Chi Running and Born to Run. That ended up hurting my calves, so I still don't quite have it yet. The 1st 5 min. run the calves finally worked themselves out and the shin splints kicked in to high gear. The 2nd 3 min. run was pure pain, but I pushed through. The 2nd 5 min. run, I still hurt, but for the last 30 seconds I picked up my pace anyway. I'm sure it wasn't much, but it was a lot for me. By speeding up I made my stride longer and that actually helped with the shin splints. After I finished the program, the hubby and I decided to run an extra quarter mile just for the heck of it. I tried the longer strides and it really did help with my shin splints. I will be practicing this more in the future. :) When I got home I went ahead and iced the shins down just in case.  We finished the 5K in 59 min. again. I am trying to get faster, but just hasn't happened yet. :)

I should be finishing the book, Born to Run, tomorrow.
Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen

I just have to say that I have loved reading this! These people are my heroes now! I love the fact that this all happened in my lifetime. Just a few years ago! I don't know if I will ever get into trail running, but this book sure makes it sound exciting! :)

I tried my first Larabar today! Apple Pie!
Yummy! It was delicious! I will be purchasing more of these in the future! :)

For dinner the hubby and I decided to try Couscous for the first time!
It was Whole Wheat Israeli Couscous.
It basically tasted like raw pasta...
The hubby liked it, me...I haven't decided yet...
I want to try a different recipe with it, but can't find a good one...
If you have a good recipe please comment and let me know! When I make it, I will link it back to your blog, if you have one! :)

I had to add this pic from tonight also. I kinda like pink. If you can't tell. :)
I actually have bright blue capri's on with this.
I wore this to the gym once and came home and told my hubby that I had to keep checking myself, because I felt like people kept staring at me! I couldn't figure out why!
He told me..."Maybe it's because you look like a giant skittle!"
Haha :) I love bright colors! What can I say! ;)
So for a tiny moment I considered naming my blog...the Skittle Runner! :)
Bright colors make me happy, so I feel happy when I wear them! :)
So I will continue to wear my bright colors and laugh to myself as I picture a giant skittle on an elliptical machine! :)

Park Problem Solved! :)

Looks like I have found my park! It's about 10 min. away driving, but it is totally worth it! My run wasn't all that exciting, but the Park was! :) Here are my new running buddies! :) They are fun to watch while running by! :)  Yes that's my finger...The sun was very bright and I didn't see it! lol :) I just love it all!  Stopping to take pictures! :) I have to Thank my mom who actually Google Maped this Park for me! :) So glad she found it! :)  As for the run, I really don't know how long the trail is, so I don't even know how far I went! I made it all the way around, walking, in less than 15 min. so I am thinking that it is at least a mile. If it is, then I did 3 miles today! If not, then...I don't know! It's times like these that I wish I had my Garmin ! :) For the first 2 laps, I decided to just Run/Walk. I would run 5 min. walk for 1 or 2 min. Then the last lap I just walked the whole time. Just to enjoy it! I just have to say...the hills are

Cowtown Half Recap!

On Sunday, February 24, 2013 I ran my first official Half Marathon!  Before the race started, I met up with these fellow MRTT ladies!  Pic from How My World Runs It was freezing cold (yes 33 degrees is freezing to this Texan! haha) and I was hoping it wouldn't warm up too much because I run so much better in the cold. I ended up wearing my jacket the whole time and was completely comfortable! We had a wind advisory in affect and I think the wind made it even cooler. This was also my first time to run with my new haircut and with my hair down! Didn't bother me at all! Short hair for the win! :) I was in the very last Corral to start. Yes, I know I'm slow. Get Over it!<---Saw that saying on several shirts throughout the race!  Looks like I need one! haha :) I had to post this pic, because I have no idea what I was doing, nor remember even taking it! Haha! About 20 min before the race, I headed to the porta potty's. Yeah, I should have
